Opening the Summer Festival "Incontro con l'autore" on Saturday 1 April at 4 pm at the Fantini Club will be the book "Ercole Baldini. Una leggenda italiana' (Ercole Baldini. An Italian Legend) written by Beppe Conti, an illustrious signature of Italian sports journalism and current Rai Sport columnist.
The plot retraces the exploits of the extraordinary champion Ercole Baldini, nicknamed 'the train from Forlì', the only Italian cyclist able to win the Olympic Games
(Melbourne 1956), a world road race (Reims 1958) and a great Giro (1958).
The book, enriched by more than 200 evocative pictures by Walter Breveglieri, takes us through the three fabulous years in which Baldini partly succeeded in overshadowing some of the legendary figures of the 20th century, including Coppi and Bartali.
What better occasion than the eve of the 26th Granfondo Via del Sale Fantini Club, to pay homage to the last great representative of the golden age of Italian cycling, who passed away last December.
